MTV Video That Started My Love for AIC

“Them Bones” by Alice In Chains is one of my all time favorite videos. I remember seeing this for the first time on MTV. If you are as old as me, you will remember when MTV was the only place to see music videos. Only university science and computer geeks were using the Internet at that point in the 90’s. This Alice In Chains video came on and my jaw dropped. It was one of those “aha” moments when you are floored by  how cool and amazing something is. It was the same feeling that I got the first time I saw Thin Lizzy on television when I was about 10 years old — on one of those late night TV music shows. I wish I could remember which one it was. Maybe it was Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert or The King Biscuit Flower Hour, but it was certainly on a minuscule black and white television.

Sadly, two of the people in this video are no longer alive and gone too young. A self-fulfilling prophecy, perhaps. But we’re all gonna go sometime… some of us sooner than later. It helps remind me not to waste time on B.S.

And, another great one is “Man In The Box”:

Rest in Peace, Layne and Mike!
